How do Chemical Peels work?

A chemical peel involves a product with AHA (Alpha hydroxy acid) or a BHA (Beta hydroxy acid) solution to be applied to the skin to remove layers of dead skin cells and stimulate new growth, even out tone and give a smooth and fresh appearance. in addition, this can decongest and detox the skin, providing a smoother appearence and feel to the skin's surface. A chemical peel can be used to treat rough and dry skin, acne, fine lines, sun damage and hormonal pigmentation.

What happens during this treatment?

To start a thorough assessment will be performed before selecting a peel based on your concerns. Then the area will be thoroughly cleansed and exfoliated to remove any impurities or makeup. The peel is applied to the area using gauze and is then left on the skin for up to 10 minutes before being neutralized and removed. To calm and soothe the skin a Medik8 Ultimate Recovery Mask is applied. The mask is then removed and customized serums and finishing creams are applied.

Optional add-on's such a a LED Thearpy or extrations can be added to enhance results.

How many treatments will I require?

For the best results, it is recommended to have 6 peel treatments at 2-4 week intervals. This should be followed by maintenance treatments every few months. Results can last for years, depending on how well you care for your skin afterwards.

Who can have these treatments?

Chemical peels are not suitable for those who have been on Roaccutane in the last 6 months, or those who have open wounds, active infections, rosacea, psoriasis or dermatitis in the area to be treated.

For clients with olive and darker skin types are required to prep their skin with the Medik8 tyrosinase inhibiting serum for 2 weeks prior to having a chemical peel performed.

Post Peel Care Instructions

It is highly recommended to purchase and use the "Post Treatment Pack" 3 days after any peel or skin needling treatment to enhance results, calm and soothe the skin ($75 pack includes cleanser, hydration serum, healing moisturiser and FDA approved sunscreen).

Immediately following a chemical peel treatment your skin will be slightly flushed. We recommend that makeup is not applied on the skin for 12 hours afterward. Depending on the type of peel you may experience very mild through to moderate skin shedding from day 2-7. We advise that you do not prematurely pick at or exfoliate the dead skin as this may cause scarring or post-inflammatory pigmentation. Once the skin peeling is complete you will see a dramatic improvement in your skin’s complexion. Over the next four to six weeks the skin’s appearance will be enhanced further. The skin will look more vibrant, clearer, firmer, and healthier.

- Direct sun exposure for 24hrs and wear sunscreen daily
